Stock markets calmed down a little this week, even as the infection and death toll from the Covid-19 virus exploded upwards.
The disruption to life and business has become more acute by the day.
So much so that the Singapore Government had to announce a second support package called the Resilience Budget to help businesses and individuals to get through the crisis.
Singapore Airline Limited (SGX: C6L), or SIA, had, earlier in the week, announced that it had grounded the bulk of its fleet. 96% of its capacity up till end-April had been cut.
The big news, though, was the announcement of a massive rights issue on Thursday to bail out the airline and keep it afloat.
Temasek gave its blessings for the deal, and investors can heave a sigh of relief knowing that Singapore’s flagship carrier will continue to operate.
Though SIA has been thrown a much-needed lifeline, Royston believes that the airline is still not a buy.
