This week brought a mix of corporate action, blockbuster earnings guidance, and strategic developments across global markets.

On the local front, OUE Limited (SGX: LJ3) moved to take its healthcare subsidiary private, while shares of Frencken Group (SGX: E28) tumbled following a sizeable equity placement.

Across the Pacific, NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) posted a near-record single-day market cap gain, SK Hynix (NASDAQ: SKHY) broke ground on its first US factory, and the consortium pursuing PayPal Holdings (NASDAQ: PYPL) walked away from its US$50 billion bid.

Privatisation bid offers premium for regional healthcare group

OUE has proposed the privatisation of its Catalist-listed subsidiary OUE Healthcare (SGX: 5WA), or OUEH, via a scheme of arrangement at S$0.05 per share in cash.

The offer represents a 28.2% premium over OUEH’s last transacted price of S$0.039 on 21 August and a 2.5% premium over its latest unaudited net asset value per share of S$0.0488.

Treasure International Holdings, a wholly owned subsidiary of OUE, together with its concert parties, already holds an aggregate 89.68% stake in OUEH.

The announcement cited persistently low trading volume as a key driver behind the move, with average daily trading volume over the past 12 months accounting for just 0.05% of total issued shares and 16 trading days registering zero trades.

The privatisation would allow management greater flexibility to execute long-term strategies, particularly as OUEH’s China operations continue ramping up.

The deal requires approval by at least 75% in value of the scheme shares voted at the scheme meeting, along with regulatory and court approvals.

Shares of OUE ended at S$0.98 on 21 August 2026, down 0.5%.

AI chipmaker’s forecast sparks near-record market cap surge

NVIDIA added US$442 billion to its market value on 27 August in the second-largest single-day gain by any stock in history.

Shares jumped 8.7%, their biggest advance since April 2025, when the company was valued at less than half its current level.

The surge followed a robust earnings forecast in which NVIDIA guided for revenue to expand roughly 70% in the next fiscal year, well above consensus expectations of around 45% growth.

The upside surprise recalled the early days of the AI boom that cemented NVIDIA as the sector’s central stock.

The tech giant is now the world’s largest company by market capitalisation, with a valuation of around US$5.5 trillion.

The nearly half-a-trillion-dollar gain trails only the US$450 billion surge by Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) less than a month earlier.

Bloomberg Intelligence noted that NVIDIA’s guidance implied more than US$100 billion of potential upside to current estimates.

Technology solutions provider’s shares slide after equity placement

Shares of Frencken Group fell as much as 8.3% on 28 August after the technology solutions provider announced plans to raise S$100 million through a proposed placement of 44.1 million shares at S$2.2687 each.

The counter dropped to as low as S$2.33 at market open, having been halted on Wednesday and Thursday ahead of the announcement.

The placement price represents a 10% discount to the pre-halt closing price, with the new shares accounting for approximately 10.3% of existing issued capital.

The shares will be offered privately to institutional and accredited investors.

Despite the drop, Frencken’s shares remain up 78.9% year to date, lifted by the artificial intelligence boom.

The company counts chipmaking equipment makers Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT) and ASML (NASDAQ: ASML) among its key customers.

Other Singapore-listed semiconductor firms have seen even stronger gains, with AEM (SGX: AWX) up more than four times and UMS Integration (SGX: 558) up about 130%.

Buyout consortium walks away from fintech pioneer

A consortium comprising buyout firm Advent International and payments processor Stripe has reportedly abandoned its pursuit of PayPal, according to Bloomberg.

The potential deal, which would have been one of the largest leveraged buyouts ever, had previously valued PayPal at more than US$50 billion.

PayPal, an early mover in digital payments founded in the late 1990s, has struggled to modernise its payment technologies as rivals such as Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) have gained ground.

Bloomberg first reported in February that Stripe was considering an acquisition of parts or all of PayPal after a stock slump eroded its value.

The takeover interest, combined with strong second-quarter earnings, has since helped PayPal’s shares recover.

They have jumped more than 40% in the latest quarter, giving the company a market value of approximately US$52.6 billion.

PayPal earlier this year replaced its CEO with Enrique Lores, who has signalled a strategic overhaul of the business.

South Korean memory maker breaks ground on first US factory

SK Hynix held a groundbreaking ceremony for its first US facility in West Lafayette, Indiana, on 27 August.

The US$4 billion factory will serve as an advanced packaging plant for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), with CEO Kwak Noh-Jung declaring that Indiana will become a key HBM production base in America by 2030.

The facility is scheduled to open its first cleanroom in October 2028 and will package memory chips manufactured in South Korea and China.

SK Hynix is the HBM market share leader and is in the midst of a US$720 billion buildout to meet surging demand driven by artificial intelligence.

The company listed its shares on the NASDAQ in July, raising US$26.5 billion in the largest-ever US listing by a foreign company.

SK Hynix is receiving up to US$458 million in federal CHIPS Act funding and up to US$712 million in state incentives for the project.

Total US investments and assets are expected to exceed US$45 billion by 2030.

One of these six companies is the only one legally allowed to operate in Singapore. It has increased its dividend for 16 consecutive years. Discover which one it is in our free report here.
