Get Smart: A Whole New World

The world of tomorrow can be an exciting one for investors.

We are living in a new world today, one that is less unrecognisable compared to the past.

Our situation reminds me of the song “A Whole New World” from Walt Disney’s “Aladdin”.

The song’s lyrics wax that even though the world may have changed, it has changed to one filled with opportunities for us to embrace and explore.

That same stance should be used for investing as well.

Although the business landscape may have altered significantly from what we were accustomed to, we should not hold back just because of uncertainty.

    Shining, shimmering, and splendid

The song opens up promising to show us a world that is “shining, shimmering and splendid”.

While our surroundings are not perfectly “splendid”, there are plenty of
companies that are riding on the opportunities that this new world has presented them with.

For these companies embracing business digitalisation, the future is indeed “shining and shimmering” as they adapt to do much better.

For instance, Companies such as Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) and Shopify (NYSE: SHOP) have announced record results as more people jump online to use cloud services, surf for information, or transact.

As investors, we need to rejig our thinking to welcome this new world and the numerous investment opportunities it brings.

    A wondrous place

The song ends by stating the new world is indeed “a wondrous place”.

The analogy here would be to find businesses that are at the forefront of technology that usher in a new dawn, a different, better future from what we have today.

Such companies are pushing the boundaries and offering up services that will benefit human lives.

From enhanced genetic testing for cancer offered by Illumina (NASDAQ: ILMN) to the creation of a metaverse by social media company Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: FB), the future does promise to be more wonderful.

Our imagination alone may not prepare us for what the future can hold.

To own even a slice of this exciting future is possible by deploying some money into companies that are pushing the boundaries of science and technology.

And as time flows by, there will be more of such interesting and cutting-edge developments as human ingenuity and creativity are boundless.

    A wish for the future

Just as the genie in the movie “Aladdin” helps to grant wishes, I also have a wish for the future that I hope can be fulfilled.

My hope is that more people can embrace and understand investing to help them achieve their retirement goals.

We may be looking at a whole new different world, and it is exciting and filled with opportunities.

As long as we are on the lookout for opportunities, we will be able to discover new and wonderful things.

And that experience will be similar to the magic that Disney brings to every child who has grown up with its cartoons.

    Have a magical week ahead.
